Reporting Verbs

  • Used to report what someone else has said
  • Some examples, denied, advised, offered, warned
  • There are different structures depending on the verb
  • Verb + object + to + infinitive
  • Verb + -ing form
  • Verb + to + infinitive

Conditionals

  • Type 1 = used to talk about likely situations. Structure – If + present simple, main clause – future simple
  • Type 2 = used to talk about unreal or impossible situations. Structure – If + past simple, main clause – modal verb + infinitive

1. If I were you, I would call him.
2. If I am late, I will be in trouble.
3. If I water the plants, they won’t die.
