This notice covers our website, free learner accounts, paid courses, any membership or subscription products, and communications. Reading or using the website is not consent to marketing or optional tracking.
2. Information We Collect
We receive your name, email address, account details, chosen English level, country/region of residence, main reason for learning English, support messages and any marketing choice you make. Country/region and main learning goal are required when creating a new free account. We use these answers to understand our learners and plan relevant learning and products; they do not sign you up for marketing emails. WordPress stores a protected password hash; passwords are not sent to our marketing contact lists.
Learning records can include level-check answers and recommendations, your chosen level, activities opened or completed, quiz results, video progress and associated dates. We also record account-related visits to Club pages and checkout to understand interest in membership.
For purchases we hold order, subscription, billing, tax and payment-status information. Stripe and PayPal process payment details. Technical records may include IP addresses, device/browser information, security logs and website activity. Cookies and embedded services are explained in our Cookies Policy.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
Provide free accounts, paid courses and membership services, save learning progress, recommend relevant learning material, and respond to support requests. Group learners by English level, country/region, learning goal and account learning activity to understand demand, engagement and interest in paid products. These insights help us improve learning journeys, plan courses and offers, and understand how free accounts lead to purchases. We use aggregated reports where appropriate.
Process payments, manage subscriptions and send essential account or purchase messages. These service messages are separate from optional marketing.
Send optional marketing updates and offers only with your marketing consent. These may be tailored using your English level, country/region, learning goal and learning activity. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Use Google Analytics and Google Ads when you allow the relevant category. YouTube videos and Trustpilot review features have separate choices. Microsoft Clarity has been switched off.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
We process your data under the following legal bases:
Contract: account information and learning records necessary to provide the free account, course or membership you request, deliver learning features and administer purchases.
Legitimate interests: protecting the website, preventing misuse, responding to enquiries and administering the service; and proportionate analysis of country/region, learning goals, levels, account activity and purchases to understand our audience, improve our products and develop our business. We balance these uses against your rights and reasonable expectations. You can object as explained below. This does not override your choices about marketing emails or optional tracking. Legal obligations: maintaining records and responding to lawful requirements.
Consent: optional marketing emails and the optional technologies described in our Cookies Policy. Declining marketing does not prevent you from creating a free account or buying a course or membership.
5. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your data. We share information only with trusted service providers:
WP Engine hosts the website. WordPress, WooCommerce and LearnDash support accounts, orders and learning records. Stripe and PayPal process payments. Brevo holds contact details, English level, country/region, learning goal and communication-preference records for contact management, audience segmentation and permitted communications.
Google provides Analytics, Ads and YouTube; Trustpilot provides external review features. Optional website features follow your cookie choices. Website administration can involve OpenAI/ChatGPT and connected tools such as WPVibe; information used in an administration task may be processed by those providers. Some providers may process information outside the UK. Contact us for information about the providers and arrangements relevant to your data.
6. Your Rights (GDPR)
Depending on the circumstances and legal basis, your rights include:
Access the data we hold about you.
Request correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of your data where applicable. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time.
Withdraw marketing consent using the unsubscribe link in marketing emails or by contacting us. Change optional website permissions through Cookie settings in the footer. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing.

7. How Long We Keep Data
We keep personal information for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy. Account, learning and learner-profile records support your ongoing account and proportionate analysis of engagement and product demand. We consider whether your account is active, our continuing need for identifiable records, legal obligations and any unresolved disputes when deciding retention. Purchase records may be needed for tax, accounting or legal obligations; support records may be needed to resolve enquiries or disputes. Statistics that no longer identify anyone may be kept for longer-term business planning. A limited record of an unsubscribe or suppression may be retained to respect that choice. Our website consent preference is kept for up to 180 days on your browser. Contact us about the records held for your account and deletion requests.
