The different versions of ‘most’ are used to talk about the majority of something.

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to use these different versions and practise using them.

When to use most/most of/the most?

Most

Used to talk about the majority of something
Add a noun after – most people, most shops etc.

Most of

Used to talk about groups (groups of people/things/animals)
Used before articles (a/an/the), pronouns (my, your, them, his), this/that

The most

Used as a superlative that means the best, the greatest in a group
Use an adjective after (the most popular, the most interesting)

Examples

1. Most people use a smartphone.

2. Most of the students completed the essay.

3. We have the most beautiful jewellery collection.
