There is/There are

  • To talk about objects and things that exist/are present
  • There is = singular nouns
  • There are = plural nouns

Prepositions of place

  • Next to = immediately to one side of something
  • Opposite = on the other side
  • Between = in the middle of 2 things

 

Examples

1. There is a house next to the park.
2. There are cars parked opposite the shops.
3. My friend is sat next to me.
