We used to worry about ‘Big Brother’ watching us, but it turns out the real threat is much more insidious: the Filter Bubble. Our algorithms have become so sophisticated at feeding us what we already like that they’ve effectively insulated us from any form of intellectual friction. We’re living in a digital echo chamber where our own biases are constantly reinforced and amplified.

This isn’t just about politics; it’s about our taste in music, film, and even the people we interact with. When you’re never challenged, your intellectual muscles start to atrophy. We lose the ability to parse complex arguments or empathise with a truly foreign perspective. We’re becoming a society of certainty-addicts, terrified of the nuance that exists in the grey areas. If we want to reclaim our critical thinking, we have to deliberately go out of our way to poison the algorithm – to seek out the things that make us uncomfortable or confuse us. Growth, after all, only happens at the edges of our comfort zone.
